Workshop: How to create compelling photojournalism with Christian Bobst (CH)

Meet and learn from multi-awarded Swiss photographer Christian Bobst to create stunning photographs.

The master class will take place at Marski by Scandic, Mannerheimintie 10, 00100 Helsinki.

Christian Bobst will be available for a one day workshop during Helsinki Photo Festival. The workshop is for aspiring students or professionals who are interested in exploring the art of telling a story through a unique combination of images and words. Learn new visual storytelling techniques that will help you connect with, convince, and call your audience to action. Visual storytelling is a way for people to communicate their story using visuals and digital media such as video, graphics, and photography.

Using some of his award-winning photo reportages as examples, Swiss award-winning photographer Christian Bobst will explain how to create images and visual stories that have the power to stand out from the daily flood of images. He will then lead workshop participants through practical exercises on editing picture stories. In the first part of the workshop, Christian will give tangible advice on photographic practice in photojournalism. He will show how to achieve that light, composition and content are condensed into a concise image at a decisive moment. He also gives practical tips on planning and research. The second part of the workshop is about how to create a series of images that tell a story in a compelling way. A good edit makes a crucial difference in every picture story, portfolio and award submission. Christian will go into depth on editing photo stories and will lead workshop participants through practical exercises for selecting and sequencing image series. Participants will be able to edit their own image series or will be assigned image series, depending on their preference (please register your preference in advance by e-mail: mail@christianbobst.com). Biography
Christian Bobst (b. 1971, Switzerland) originally studied graphic design. For almost 15 years he worked for major advertising agencies in Switzerland and Germany. In 2010 he started working as a freelance documentary photographer. Since then he has produced numerous photo reports and assignments in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. His work has been published in magazines, daily newspapers and online media such as GEO, Stern, The Guardian, National Geographic, Die Zeit, NZZ, LensCulture and 6mois. Christian has won numerous international and national photo awards. Christian Bobst lives in Zurich and is a member of the photo agency laif in Germany.
