LIGHT IS A THING – workshop
The workshop will give practical insight on how to look for and apply basic lighting principles to any visual medium or subject matter. It’s open to anyone interested in understanding in appreciating light and how to master applying it. We will begin by looking at, and talking about, how the uses of light has evolved in painting. Using a digital camera and a monitor, the workshop will explore ways we can take command of different lighting techniques. That minor adjustments with light can make radical differences in how we look and feel about an image.
Beginning with available light, students will examine how moving the camera or the subject can alter the mood and the meaning of an image. We will then work with artificial lights and finally set up a complete studio lighting environment. In a step by step demonstration the class will see how we can construct an entire visual surrounding with lights and props. When we think of light as a thing with substance, we can begin to see how to use it and to control it.
