SHARON BOOTHROYD

From the UK. Lives and works in London.

Sharon is a photographic artist and lecturer based in London. She is currently undertaking her PhD research at the Royal College of Art. She teaches at Roehampton University, is Visiting Lecturer on the MA school group at the Royal College of Art and convenes a module ‘Photographic Currents’ at Ithaca College, London Centre. Her Phd title is: Boundaries and Slippages of the Self: Experimenting with photography and the autobiographical in the performance of female fantasy and delusion. Boundaries and Slippages seeks to reduce stigmatisation around psychosis, delusion and fantasy in female patients and operates as an urgent feminist enquiry into the value of ‘feminine discourse’ in contemporary society. By gathering source material through archives and case-studies about women’s experiences of delusions I will interpret this data through the production of large scale photographic art and fictionalised narratives. Her work has been exhibited internationally including New York, Canada, Dublin, Zurich, Braga, Goa, Oxford, Brighton and London and been the recipient of awards such as Flash Forward Magenta Awards in Canada and The International Photography Awards, New York. She received her MA in Photographic Studies from Westminster University in 2011 and gained a first class BA (hons) in Contemporary Photographic Practice at Northumbria University.
