NAYAB NOOR IKRAM

Nayab Noor Ikram (b. 1992) is a photographer and visual artist. She is of Pakistani descent and currently based in Turku, Finland. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Culture and Arts degree, majoring in photography from Novia University of Applied Sciences, Jakobstad, in Finland. Ikram explores concepts like cultural identity and communication between the individual and society.
‘Longing I’ & ‘Longing II’, is part of the body of work ‘In Between’. The portraits are taken of a Salvadora Oleoides tree and a Pine tree, where I see parts of myself reflecting in the trees. The trees symbolise origins and roots, but it also symbolises the sense of home and the fact that you can feel at home in more than one place. The picture of the Salvadora Oleoides tree was taken in Badshahi Mosque, in Lahore, Pakistan. While the photo of the Pine tree was taken in the countryside in the region of Ostrobothnia, in Finland.
