Loulou d’Aki is a Swedish documentary photographer. As a photographer, she is interested in how human beings, especially youth and women, are affected by the society in which they live and the idea of freedom. Her clients include Le Monde, M. le magazine du Monde, TIME, NYT, Bloomberg Businessweek, The New Yorker, National Geographic, Dagens Nyheter, Marie Claire, Internazionale, UNICEF, etc.
Her work has been exhibited at Lodz Fotofestiwal, Noorderlicht, Singapore, Medfoto and Lofoten photo festivals, Prix Bayeux-Calvados, Fotoleggendo etc. Alongside commissioned work, Lou focuses on various long-term projects such as Make a Wish, a photo essay focusing on the dreams and aspirations of youth across the Middle East. The project was an EPF finalist in 2016, was shortlisted for the 2017 Grand Prix at Lodz Fotofestiwal and winner of Cortona on the Move dummy award 2017.
She is currently working on a project called Mother of choice, about self-chosen single motherhood through artificial insemination in Sweden, with the support of Konstnärsnämnden (the Swedish Arts Grants Committee). Loulou d’Aki was a singer before she became a photographer. She speaks Swedish, English, Italian, French and gets by in German and Hebrew. Middle Eastern-based from 2010-2015, Loulou d’Aki works all around the world.
